Woodbury's strategic location along I-494, I-694 and I-94, and its commitment to quality development and excellence in providing city services have positioned it for sustained success and contributed to a robust and thriving business climate.
The City of Woodbury has also enjoyed strong and consistent leadership that sincerely cares about the health of the business community and appreciates their investment in the community. The city's business outreach and retention program dates back to the 1980s, helping to ensure that our existing businesses are able to stay, grow and thrive here in Woodbury.
The following annual events demonstrate the city's ongoing commitment to business.
Business Celebration
Each year, the City of Woodbury partners with the Woodbury Area Chamber of Commerce to acknowledge businesses that made substantial real estate investments or improvements in Woodbury in the past year. The event, known as the Woodbury Business Celebration, typically draws about 100 people from the local business community. While 2020’s event acknowledging 2019 achievements was canceled due to COVID-19, it is important the city recognize these businesses for their investment in our community. The following businesses received plaques for new commercial construction investment in 2019:
Premier Bank
Salute Dental
Texas Roadhouse
CityPlace Medical II (Shriner’s Hospital and Adefris and Toppin)
CityPlace Medical III (Midwest ENT)
Valley Creek Retail (Dunkin Donuts)
Wooddale Office Flex
The following businesses received plaques as one of the top commercial investments or reinvestments (additions/leasehold improvements) in 2019; each of which had a permit value of more than $750,000:
Summit Orthopedics
Foss Swim School
Allina Health Woodbury Clinic
Woodbury Lakes
Goodwill
United Noodles
Kraft Mechanical
Barnes & Noble
Mayor Anne Burt hand-delivered plaques to these businesses and personally thanked them for choosing Woodbury as a home for their business
Business Connect
Held in the fall of each year, the Business Connect event highlights how Woodbury is well-positioned to offer extraordinary business opportunities. Attendees have a chance to network with commercial developers and brokers from across the metro area.
The 2020 Business Connect was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Mayor's Business Update
One sign of the strength of Woodbury's business community is the growth of the Woodbury Area Chamber of Commerce. The City of Woodbury and the Chamber have a unique and collaborative relationship, with the city having representation on the Chamber’s board of directors. The Mayor delivers the State of the City Address once a year at the November Chamber networking luncheon. This event offers a great re-cap of the past year’s accomplishments as well as a forecast for the coming year.
