The Woodbury Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere™,” which works to educate the public about basic but essential ways to quickly and safely escape a home fire.
This year’s campaign highlights three steps people can take to help quickly and safely escape a fire:
- Look for places fire could start. Take a good look around your home. Identify potential fire hazards and take care of them.
- Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm. You could have only minutes to escape safely once the smoke alarm sounds. Go to your outside meeting place, which should be a safe distance from the home and where everyone should know to meet.
- Learn two ways out of every room and make sure all doors and windows leading outside open easily and are free of clutter.
Fire Prevention Week takes place Oct. 7-13. The Woodbury Fire Department will end the week with a Fire Station Open House at the Fox Run Fire Station, 1275 Woodbury Drive, on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 to 11 a.m. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
